Give today’s kids a typewriter and you’d likely hear funny reactions as they try to figure out what it is and how to use it. On the other hand, give one to an adult and you’d likely get bursts of nostalgic enthusiasm.
Way before the popularity of computers, mechanical typewriters were the “in” thing for those who needed to “encode” documents. Compared with a keyboard, these typewriters require greater effort and concentration to use. Also, the clickity noise and vintage vibe of it really gives the entire experience a unique flavor.

Fortunately, there’s a USB-powered keypad in the market that allows you to relive the past without having to use a time machine.
Enter, the Qwerkywriter – a Kickstarter project by Brian Min, a game developer who created a vintage-style keyboard.

The Qwerkywriter comes with 84 keys plus it is Bluetooth enabled. According to its Kickstarter page, it “simulates a tacticle click feel of a vintage typewriter.” It also has an integrated tablet stand where you can place your device and start typing.

Now you have to note that the product you see here is a handbuilt prototype, meaning it is not the final look. Brian and his team tell us that the final version “will be CAD engineered, machine tooled, and factory built.” It has also been mentioned that Qwerkywriter is a flexible item that can accommodate various sizes of tablets. This means you probably do not have anything to worry about whether your tablet is huge or tiny. This is expect to have a dimension of 12.5” x 7.5” x 3.5” and weighs about 3lbs.

As of this writing, the needed funding for the Kickstarter project has already been completed. Those interested to grab one should definitely make reservations right now.
